What did Hassan Sheikh and Abiy Ahmed discuss?

The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, today made a one-day visit to the city of Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, where he held a meeting with the Prime Minister of that country, Abiy Ahmed.

The meeting discussed the security and political situation in the region, particularly the development of cooperation among the countries in the region to maintain peace and stability in the Horn of Africa, as stated in a statement from the Somali presidency.

"The meeting focused on strengthening the longstanding relationship between the two countries and the security and political situation in the region, particularly the importance of developing cooperation among the countries in the region to maintain peace and stability in the Horn of Africa," the statement from Villa Somalia said.

The meeting between the two leaders in Addis Ababa comes at a time when heavy fighting is ongoing in Ethiopia and an alliance of 7 groups is opposing the government of that country, while Somalia is experiencing electoral disputes that have led to fighting and division.
