Pakistan Air Force delegation visits Mogadishu for defence talks

Mogadishu (HOL) — A high-level delegation from the Pakistan Air Force arrived in Mogadishu on Sunday for talks on rebuilding the Somali Air Force and strengthening defence cooperation between the two countries.

The delegation was led by Air Marshal Muhammad Sarfraz, Commander of Air Defence and Deputy Chief of the Air Staff.

advertisements Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud received the delegation for discussions focused on the development of the Somali Air Force and wider defence cooperation.

The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, Somali National Armed Forces Commander Brig. Gen. Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud and Somali Air Force Commander Brig. Gen. Abdirisak Mohamud Haji.

Officials said the talks focused on strengthening relations between Somalia and Pakistan and advancing cooperation in rebuilding and improving the capabilities of the Somali Air Force.

During the meeting, Hassan Sheikh praised the friendship between the two countries and emphasized the importance of defence cooperation in strengthening the Somali National Armed Forces and protecting Somalia’s security, sovereignty and unity.

The visit follows a memorandum of understanding signed in August 2026 between Somalia and Pakistan’s defence ministries.

The agreement provides a framework for cooperation in counterterrorism, military training, exchange of military expertise, defence capability development and broader security cooperation.
