Puntland Danab Commander Returns to Garowe After Breakthrough Talks with President Deni

Garowe (WDN) – Puntland’s Danab Special Forces Commander, General Jimcaale Jaamac Takar, returned to Garowe on Friday evening following several days of high-level talks with Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni, raising hopes that a months-long political and security dispute between the two sides may be nearing resolution.

The general’s return is widely seen as a positive sign that negotiations have made meaningful progress. Sources familiar with the discussions say the parties have narrowed differences on several of the most contentious issues, although a final agreement has yet to be formally announced.

The dialogue followed an intensive mediation effort led by traditional elders, political leaders, and committees from the Nugaal region, who have spent weeks working to end the standoff between General Jimcaale and the Puntland administration.

Former Puntland President Senator Abdirahman Mohamed Farole is reported to have played a central role in the mediation, holding separate meetings with both sides in an effort to build trust and create conditions for a negotiated settlement. According to sources close to the negotiations, the two sides have reached a preliminary understanding, though no official communiqué or signed agreement outlining the terms has yet been released.
