Jariiban (WDN) — Puntland authorities have delivered emergency humanitarian assistance to approximately 200 vulnerable families in Dhinowda, a remote settlement in Jariiban District of Mudug Region.
Government officials traveled to Dhinowda to distribute essential food supplies and cash assistance cards to households facing difficult living conditions. Similar assistance has also been delivered to Towfiiq District and surrounding settlements.
Many families in Dhinowda and Towfiiq depend heavily on livestock and pastoral livelihoods. Recurrent drought, reduced access to water and pasture, and declining household incomes have increased food insecurity and placed additional pressure on vulnerable communities across the area.
The intervention forms part of Puntland’s broader efforts to provide immediate relief to remote communities while addressing their longer-term development needs. The two areas were among the communities recently visited by Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni during his tour of Mudug Region, which brought renewed attention to the humanitarian and development priorities of southern Puntland.
For the families receiving assistance, the immediate support provides essential food and financial relief. At the same time, the situation underscores the importance of sustained investment in water infrastructure, livestock services and resilient rural livelihoods to reduce communities’ vulnerability to future droughts and environmental pressures.
