Puntland has launched another ship after a heavy battle

Boosaaso (Caasimada Online) – The Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF) has launched an operation against pirates targeting groups holding the Honour 25 vessel, which was reportedly carrying Puntland traders.

The operation turned into a confrontation between PMPF forces and the pirate groups, resulting in injuries on both sides.

After the battle, Puntland forces succeeded in freeing the vessel, with the pirate group being overpowered, according to officials from the forces that carried out the operation.

This vessel is among the ships that have been held captive by pirate groups, which Puntland forces have freed through operations this week, with the confrontations resulting in casualties and injuries, while some of the pirates were also arrested.

The operation for Honour 25 marks the second time recently that PMPF forces have targeted pirates, managing to free a ship that had been held by those groups for a week.

The release of the vessel also eliminated ransom demands that the pirate groups were seeking for the release of the ship and its passengers.

Pirates have faced increasing pressure recently, with their power declining after some ships they had captured were forcefully freed, while some of the groups involved in the hijackings were apprehended.

Nonetheless, Puntland has stated that it will continue operations targeting pirate groups, which have been increasing in its territories recently, with the goal of eradicating piracy.
