Puntland has rescued a ship hijacked by pirates within weeks

BOOSAASO – The Puntland Maritime and Fisheries Police (PMPF) conducted a planned operation off the coast of the Dharin-baar area in the Bandar-beyla district, where they rescued the vessel MT HONOUR 25, which had been hijacked by pirate groups.

The PMPF forces successfully seized the vessel flying the flag of Palau, and all the pirates accused of being behind the hijacking were also captured.

According to a report released about the operation, the forces confirmed the safety of the crew on board and the cargo, with no reports of any harm coming to the crew.

The MT HONOUR 25 was a type of oil tanker, and it was reported to be carrying Somali traders. The operation is part of the efforts by the PMPF to ensure the security of Puntland's coast, particularly in combating piracy and armed groups that pose a threat to vessels and maritime trade.

The Puntland Defense Forces (PMPF) stated that they are always on standby to ensure maritime and land security, protect Puntland's borders, and safeguard the people and their property. The release of the MT HONOUR 25 comes at a time when the waters off the coast of Somalia remain closely monitored due to the threat of piracy, especially against commercial vessels navigating Somali waters.
