SoDMA and UDHIS Discuss Strengthening Cooperation and Disaster Response

MOGADISHU – The Chairman of the Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Macallin Abdulle, received the Committee of the Somali Cooperatives Movement (UDHIS) at the agency's headquarters, led by the Committee's Chairman, Mr. Aded Osman Shurie.

UDHIS consists of six organizations including the Transport and Construction Cooperatives, the Fisheries Cooperatives, the Industrial and Handicraft Cooperatives, the Consumer and Services Cooperatives, the Livestock, Forestry and Wildlife Cooperatives, and the National Agricultural Cooperatives.

The meeting focused on strengthening the skills and productivity of the country, creating job opportunities, and supporting efforts to reduce unemployment and migration, in order to build a resilient community and nation against emerging challenges.

Additionally, both sides discussed how the Somali Cooperatives Movement could play a significant role in emergency response and community assistance during disasters occurring in the country.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between government agencies and cooperative organizations, to enhance the role that communities and cooperative organizations can play in emergency response, production, and national development.
