The Electoral Commission and Political Parties Discuss Strengthening Election Procedures in Jowhar

Jowhar, 29 September 2026 – The Deputy Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Saadaq Abshir Garaad, and members of the Commission held a meeting in the city of Jowhar with the leaders and representatives of political parties present in the capital of the Hirshabelle regional government.

The meeting focused on strengthening adherence to the laws, procedures, and ethics of the election, while also discussing the enhancement of cooperation between the Commission and political parties during the preparations for the upcoming simultaneous elections for the House of Representatives and Local Councils.

The Commission urged the political parties to maintain security, order, and transparency in the electoral process, encouraging candidates, representatives, and supporters of the parties to fully comply with the procedures and guidelines of the election.

Additionally, the importance of political party representatives at polling stations maintaining the integrity of the polling process, the independence of election officials, and the smooth conduct of voting, counting, and recording of results was emphasized.

For their part, the leaders and representatives of the political parties expressed their commitment to cooperating with the Commission and adhering to the laws and procedures of the election.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission finally called on all parties to work towards ensuring that the election on September 30, 2026, takes place in a peaceful, stable, transparent manner in accordance with the law and electoral procedures.
