Somalia acting president attends General Daud basketball final in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia’s acting president and speaker of parliament, Abdirahman Mohamed Nur Jama, attended the final of the General Daud basketball tournament in Mogadishu, where Dekedaha defeated Heegan to claim the title.

The final was played at Wiish Stadium and drew government officials, sports representatives and spectators from across the Banaadir region.

Dekedaha secured victory after a closely contested match against Heegan, who finished as runners-up in the tournament.

Jama praised both teams for their performance and commitment during the competition, congratulating Dekedaha on winning the championship and commending Heegan for reaching the final.

He also highlighted the role of sport in promoting social cohesion, peace and unity, particularly among young people.

At the end of the match, Jama presented the championship trophy to Dekedaha and awarded medals to players from both teams.

Several senior officials attended the final, including Somalia’s youth and sports minister, members of parliament, the manager of Mogadishu Port, security officials, sports representatives and members of the public.

The General Daud tournament is part of Somalia’s efforts to promote basketball and provide opportunities for young people to participate in organized sport.
