Somalia and the United States Discuss Strengthening the Fight Against Terrorism

The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of Somalia, Abdifataax Qasim Mahmud, held a meeting with Robert Flannery, who is the advisor for the East Africa Counterterrorism Program of the United States Government, focusing on strengthening the cooperation between the two countries in the areas of media and countering extremist ideologies.

The meeting, which took place at the minister's office in Mogadishu on October 10, 2026, discussed how to enhance community awareness, prevent terrorist propaganda, and unify government messages related to efforts against terrorist groups.

Minister Abdifataax Qasim emphasized the need for a unified media strategy and effective awareness campaigns to deliver accurate messages to the Somali community that enhance their understanding and participation in the efforts to combat terrorism.

For his part, Robert Flannery highlighted the importance of continuing the cooperation between Somalia and the United States, particularly in the areas of media and strategic communication, to strengthen efforts against terrorism.

The minister was accompanied by the Director of the Strategic Communication Department of the Ministry, Abdishakur Ali Ahmed, and the minister's advisor, Abdicasis Jeylani.
