South West State Opens Annual Forum to Strengthen Local Governance and Public Services

BAIDOA, Somalia — South West State leader Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe has officially opened the annual forum for governors and district commissioners in the administration, bringing together regional and local government officials in Baidoa.

The forum is attended by ministers, lawmakers and governors and commissioners from across South West State. Discussions are focused on strengthening local government institutions, improving public services and enhancing cooperation between government agencies at regional and district levels.

Security is among the key issues on the agenda, with participants reviewing ways to improve coordination between security agencies and local authorities, strengthen community security and address security threats in areas under the administration.

The forum is also discussing economic issues, including efforts to increase domestic revenue and improve basic services. Officials are examining ways to strengthen the administrative capacity and financial resources of local governments to enable them to better deliver services to communities.

Participants are also reviewing preparations for the potential impact of El Niño-related rains and flooding. Discussions include flood prevention and response plans, emergency preparedness and measures to reduce the impact of heavy rains and flooding on vulnerable communities.

Madobe urged regional and district officials to strengthen cooperation, improve public service delivery and give priority to security, development of basic services and preparedness for humanitarian and natural emergencies.

The annual forum comes as South West State continues to face security and humanitarian challenges, while local authorities seek to strengthen governance and service delivery across the administration.
