Police Chief Calls for the Protection of the Rights of Women and Children

Mogadishu, June 20, 2026 – The Chief of the Somali Police Force, Major General Asad Osman Abdullahi, today chaired a meeting of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which discussed the fight against organized crime, accelerating investigations related to acts against social ethics, and the importance of protecting human rights during investigations.

This meeting comes at a time when Somalia is facing organized crimes, including threats against women and children, as the government seeks to strengthen justice and protect vulnerable communities. CID is considered the most important police department for criminal investigations, and it is crucial that it operates efficiently.

“I urge the investigative officers to prioritize the protection of human rights, to bring justice to those accused of acts against vulnerable communities such as women and children,” said Police Chief Major General Asad Osman Abdullahi. “Justice must be based on good practices and the protection of community rights.”

The Chief added that organized crimes are among the biggest challenges to the country's security, and he called for enhanced coordination among security agencies to end the criminal acts that violate the community. He stated that CID officers must conduct their investigations professionally and avoid anything that could harm the dignity of individuals.

CID officials stated that they are ready to conduct training to enhance their capacity to investigate crimes thoroughly while ensuring that investigations are based on facts and not coercion. It is expected that CID will undertake activities in the coming days to accelerate investigations, with support from the government and international agencies.

This meeting concluded with the Chief calling for cooperation between the community and security agencies to ensure that justice is served for all parties.
