TUBSAN and Italy Strengthening the Fight Against Terrorism

Mogadishu, June 06, 2026 – The Director General of the National Center for Combating Terrorism and Preventing Extremist Ideology of Tubsan, Mr. Ali Yasin Gurbe, held an important meeting with the Commander of the Italian National Army (IT-NCC), Col. Marco De Gruttula, who operates in Somalia, as both sides discussed strengthening cooperation and accelerating efforts to combat terrorism and extremist ideology.

This meeting came as the Serendi rehabilitation center is one of the key establishments for reintegrating youth returning from extremist groups, with the cooperation between Somalia and Italy having long worked on rebuilding infrastructure and training.

“I would like to thank the Italian Army for their unwavering efforts in implementing the commitments that were part of the rehabilitation of the Serendi rehabilitation center,” said Mr. Ali Yasin Gurbe. “The projects completed – including the basketball court, the vocational training classroom, and the communal kitchen – have made a significant change in the lives and training of the youth.”

The Director added that the Somali government is ready to sustain and strengthen this important cooperation, thanking the IT-NCC leadership for the gift they presented.

The Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) leadership presented a special gift to the Director General of Tubsan, symbolizing the deep relationship of cooperation and friendship. Col. Marco De Gruttula stated that Italy will continue to support the Tubsan center, particularly in the areas of empowerment and equipping.

These legacy actions are part of the efforts of the National Center of Tubsan to prepare youth returning from extremist ideology for comprehensive rehabilitation, providing them with skills to manage their lives and play a role in the peace and stability of the country.
