Friday, 28, August 28 2026 {HMC} The Turkish government is strengthening its military presence in the Horn of Africa by deploying two naval vessels, TCG Kemalreis and TCG Yzb. Güngör Durmuş, to the region.
The vessels are heading to Djibouti to support Somali naval operations and logistics vessels operating across the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Indian Ocean.
The Turkish Ministry of Defense also said it is providing the necessary support to Somalia following the hijacking of the MV Lutuf, in cooperation with the Federal Government of Somalia.
This comes at a time when Puntland has accused Turkey of being behind deadly airstrikes along the coast of Nugaal Region, where six vessels, including the MV Lutuf, are reportedly being held.
