At least 11 people killed in blast at police checkpoint in Pakistan

At least 11 people have died, and 20 others have been injured in a blast that occurred on Saturday at a police checkpoint in the northwestern part of Pakistan.

The blast took place in Dera Ismail Khan , near the border between the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, local officials told the Dawn newspaper.

The emergency agency Rescue 1122 reported that those killed in the blast included eight men, two women, and one child . Rescue teams are still conducting operations at the site, searching for victims under the rubble.

Police stated that the injured include police officers, staff from the tax department, and two civilians.

Explosive ordnance disposal teams have arrived at the scene and have begun investigating the cause of the blast and the type of explosives used.

The checkpoint where the blast occurred is crucial for security operations, as the forces there check people and vehicles using the road connecting Dera Ismail Khan and Quetta .
