UNHCR and the Government of Somalia Strengthening Support for Displaced Persons and Refugees

MOGADISHU – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Somalia has stated that it will continue to support the Federal Government of Somalia and the Federal Member States to assist the displaced community, despite challenges related to the decline in international funding.

A recent meeting in Mogadishu, the Acting Representative of UNHCR Somalia, Jing Song, met with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia, Ali Mohamed Omar (Ali Balcad), to discuss the situation of the displaced persons and efforts to develop sustainable solutions for those forced to flee their homes.

Both sides emphasized the importance of continuing close cooperation between the Government of Somalia and international agencies to strengthen support for displaced persons and refugees, and to create opportunities for resettlement, livelihoods, and basic services.

UNHCR reiterated its commitment to turning pledges into tangible actions that positively impact the lives of vulnerable people, prioritizing sustainable solutions that enhance the resilience and development of communities affected by conflicts and disasters.
