The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia Participates in the Leadership Election of Galmudug

Thursday 22 Oct 2026 {HMC} The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government, Mr. Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, participated today in the election ceremony of the leadership of the Galmudug Regional State held in the city of Dhuusamareeb.

The Minister, in a speech at the ceremony, praised the people and politicians of Galmudug for the peaceful manner in which they managed the electoral process.

He pointed out that the consensus among the political factions in Galmudug is an important step that demonstrates political maturity, democracy, and progress achieved in stability, noting that Galmudug can serve as a good example for other regional states in the country.

Minister Fiqi specifically congratulated the new leader of Galmudug, Mr. Liibaan Axmed Xasan, the Deputy Leader, Mr. Cabdiweli Ibraahim Garyare, and the previously elected leadership of the Galmudug House of Representatives.

The Minister called on the new leadership to prioritize addressing clan conflicts and strengthening peace, emphasizing that there is no need for Somali people to lose their lives over disputes related to land and water wells.

Minister Fiqi also urged the new leadership and the Galmudug Parliament to strengthen community unity, while directing weapons and military power towards the defense of the people and the eradication of terrorist groups still present in parts of Galmudug's regions.
