The Secretary of the Upper House Participates in the Conference of Secretaries of African Parliaments

MIDRAND, South Africa – The Secretary-General of the Upper House of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Mr. Abdinasir Ibrahim Guuleed, participated in the 7th Annual Conference of the Association of Secretaries-General of African Parliaments, which officially opened in the city of Midrand, South Africa, the headquarters of the Pan-African Parliament.

The conference, which focuses on modernizing parliamentary institutions, has this year's theme: “Strengthening Parliamentary Action for Effective Implementation of African Union Agreements and Prioritizing Agenda 2063.”

The two-day conference will discuss how parliamentary secretaries can modernize their working procedures and respond to the changing needs of their institutions and leadership.

The conference was officially opened by the President of the Pan-African Parliament, Mr. Dr. Fateh Boutbig, who, in his opening speech, stated that parliamentary administrations are the backbone of sustaining and enhancing democratic institutions.

He also noted that parliamentary cooperation heavily relies on the institutional relationships that connect the secretaries-general of parliaments. The participation of the Secretary-General of the Upper House in this forum is part of efforts to strengthen relations, cooperation, and the exchange of experiences between the Federal Parliament of Somalia and legislative bodies across the African continent.

These efforts specifically focus on improving and modernizing parliamentary management and how to strengthen cooperation between Somalia's legislative institutions and those of other countries on the continent.
