Strengthening the Support Capabilities of the Somali Army

MOGADISHU – Brigadier General Elio Manes, Commander of the EUTM-Somalia Mission, visited the Support Command of the Somali National Army (SNA) at Villa Baidoa, reaffirming the strong cooperation between the European Union and the SNA.

During the visit, Brig. Gen. Manes reviewed the results of a recent workshop on Communication and Information Systems (CIS), which was implemented under the SNA III project funded by the European Union. This initiative supports the development of modern communication capabilities, aiding in the improvement of leadership, control, and coordination of internal operations within the SNA.

The Commander of the Mission also visited the Operations Center of the Logistics Command of the Army, where SNA officials plan and coordinate logistical support for units operating throughout Somalia. The visit highlighted the increasing capacity of the Somali-led support structures and the growing capability of the SNA to provide operational support across the country.

Through initiatives such as the SNA III project, the European Union continues to support Somalia in building professional, capable, and sustainable security institutions.
