Aadan Madoobe elected President of South West State.

The Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Aadan Mohamed Nur (Aadan Madoobe), was today elected President of the South West State of Somalia in the city of Baydhabo. Aadan Madoobe received all the votes cast, following an election surrounded by disputes and accusations regarding the process followed to conduct it.

The main rival candidate, Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden, rejected the election, accusing the committee and the involved parties of failing to adhere to previous agreements related to holding a free and fair election. He stated that they had been waiting for two months for a fair process that all parties could trust.

“We have been waiting for a fair election for two months, the agreement has been broken, phone calls have been made. We wanted democracy, but what is happening is something else,” said Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden, expressing his disappointment with how the election was conducted.

Additionally, another candidate, the son of the former Speaker of the Federal Parliament, Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari, did not receive any votes at the polling station. This result has further intensified discussions about the political process in South West State and the need for elections that all parties are satisfied with.

Galmudug, Hirshabelle, and Puntland congratulated the newly elected President of South West State while President Abdikasiis Hassan Mohamed Lafta-gareen is still in office.
