Ethiopian Forces Reportedly Advance 150 KM Into Tigray

Mekelle, Ethiopia – The Ethiopian federal government forces are reported to have advanced more than 150 kilometers into the Tigray region, with reports from northern Ethiopia indicating that the forces are getting closer to Mekelle, the regional capital.

Al Jazeera reported that this development has been confirmed by sources within the Ethiopian federal government and several other informed sources regarding the military movements in those areas. According to the sources, federal forces have retaken the towns of Mekoni, Wajena, and Adi Gudom, which are said to be approximately 39 kilometers from Mekelle.

If this information is confirmed, the capture of these three towns could significantly bring Ethiopian federal forces closer to Mekelle, marking a potentially important shift in the new fighting between Ethiopian government forces and Tigray forces.
