The government presents corpses and Lafta-gareen's forces are fighting in Baydhaba

Mogadishu (Caasimada Online) – The Somali National Army Command has provided preliminary details about the ongoing battle in the city of Baydhaba, the capital of the Bay region, which is between the Somali government forces and those loyal to the former president of South West State, Mr. Abdikasiis Hassan Mohamed (Lafta-areen).

According to SNA RADIO, the forces inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers, whom they identified as a mix of Al-Shabaab militants and Lafta-gareen forces, presenting the bodies of members killed in the fighting.

The statement also indicated that the forces bravely repelled the attack and that they fully control the city of Baydhaba.

On the other hand, the Minister of Defense of Somalia, Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, who spoke about the battle in Baydhaba, stated that the attacking militants were defeated, praising the government forces and the reinforcements from the South West administration.

“The terrorists who attacked Baydhaba this morning have been dealt a heavy blow,” said Minister Ahmed Macallin in a brief post on his Facebook.

However, the situation remains tense, with the latest reports indicating that the fighting is still ongoing, and the forces loyal to Lafta-gareen are engaging in battles around the Arab Mosques and the University, both located near the Four Doors area of Baydhaba.
