Mogadishu, Somalia – June 14, 2026 – The National Communications Authority (HIQ) today held the Second AI Summit Somalia (The AI Summit Somalia 2026), which is a national platform to discuss the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the development of social services, enhancing innovation, accelerating digital transformation, and economic progress in Somalia.

This two-day summit was organized by the National Communications Authority (HIQ), in collaboration with the Somalia AI Community, and closely worked with Zamzam University and Somali National University (SNU), which jointly participated in the organization of this summit.

The summit was officially opened by Mr. Farah Sheikh Abdulqadir Mohamed, Minister of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education of the Federal Government of Somalia, who in his speech emphasized the importance of Somalia strategically leveraging the opportunities provided by AI to enhance education, research, innovation, and knowledge-based economic growth.

The opening ceremony also featured speeches from Dr. Mahmoud Mohamed Hassan (Harbi), Chairman of Zamzam University of Science and Technology; Prof. Dr. Mohamed Mahmoud Mohamed, Chairman of Somali National University; Mr. Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, General Director of the National Communications Authority; and Mr. Ahmed Ismail Diiriye, State Minister of the Ministry of Communications and Technology of the Federal Government of Somalia, who specifically highlighted the opportunities and significance of AI for the development and future of Somalia.
