Kheyre Calls for an Immediate Halt to the Ongoing Conflict in Jalalaqsi

MOGADISHU – Former Prime Minister of Somalia, Hassan Ali Kheyre, has called for an immediate cessation of the conflict and internal fighting occurring in the Jalalaqsi district of Hiiraan region.

In a statement released by Kheyre, he expressed deep concern over the renewed violence in Jalalaqsi, noting that the images and footage being reported from this conflict are heartbreaking and show the extent of the damage inflicted on the people, livestock, and the environment.

“I am saddened by the conflict and internal fighting that has resurfaced in the city of Jalalaqsi in the Hiiraan region. The images and footage being reported are alarming and reveal the scale and damage of this internal conflict,” Kheyre said.

The former Prime Minister stated that the Somali people have enough experience with the problems and damages resulting from internal conflicts, describing it as unfortunate and a national disaster that today Somalis are killing each other over clan disputes.

Kheyre urged the warring clans in Jalalaqsi to immediately cease hostilities and resolve their disputes through dialogue and mutual understanding.

He also called on the Federal Government of Somalia and the Hirshabelle administration to urgently participate in efforts to mediate between the warring parties and to establish a genuine reconciliation process aimed at achieving a lasting solution.
