The Galmudug Re-election Campaign Concluded in Gaalkacyo

The city of Gaalkacyo in the Mudug region has concluded the campaign for the repeat election of Galmudug, with candidates and political parties having conducted campaigns and political meetings in various areas of Galmudug in recent days.

The Galmudug leadership candidate Liibaan Axmed Xasan stated that he officially concluded his campaign in Gaalkacyo, thanking the people, the administration, the intellectuals, the traditional elders, and the leaders at both the federal and Galmudug levels who he said warmly welcomed him.

Liibaan described Gaalkacyo as a city important for peace, coexistence, and community connectivity, stating that he wants the city to play a visible role in the reconciliation efforts of Galmudug and in strengthening the relationship and cooperation between Galmudug and Puntland.

The candidate's campaign has passed through other cities in Galmudug before reaching Gaalkacyo, with a delegation led by Liibaan Axmed Xasan arriving in Guriceel on September 19, where they held meetings and conducted campaigns.

Overall, political activities related to the repeat election are ongoing in Galmudug, with campaigns taking place in Dhuusamareeb, Guriceel, and other areas in the Galgaduud and Mudug regions.

This election came after the country's Supreme Court annulled the results of the election held on July 30, which the court stated was not conducted in accordance with the Constitution and election laws, and ordered that the election be held again.

} The election commission has announced that September 30, 2026 has been set for the repeat election of the House of Representatives and the Local Councils of Galmudug, while the political campaign will end on September 28.

This election will involve 12 political parties that have submitted their candidate lists and the required documents for participation in the repeat election, as stated by the election commission.
