MPs in Mogadishu Show Strong Support for Lafta-gareen

Mogadishu (Caasimada Online) – Members of the Somali Parliament who spoke to the media today expressed strong support for the former President of South West State, Abdikasiis Lafta-gareen, whose forces launched an attack in Baydhaba this morning, where a battle occurred with government troops.

These MPs, elected from South West State, stood by President Lafta-gareen and his team who are fighting against Aadan Madoobe and his government, while also directing accusations at the Federal Government of Somalia.

Aadan Lafta-gareen, one of the MPs who spoke, strongly defended his brother, stating that he is not a terrorist but is fighting for the rights of South West State. He also dismissed claims that aircraft were used in today’s battle.

“The government troops of South West State attacked the city, and the forces that had previously been sent on an offensive have returned; they are not carrying aircraft, but rather they are being supported by some MPs from South West State who are causing trouble there,” said Aadan Lafta-gareen.

Additionally, MP Mohamed Hassan Mohamed (Murjaan) described Lafta-gareen's forces as legitimate defenders fighting to liberate their territory.

“I have not seen a place where Al-Shabaab has attacked, but I have been told that legitimate defending forces are currently launching an attack; I have heard that F-16s have been deployed, and civilians are being killed,” said MP Mohamed Hassan Murjaan.

On her part, MP Maryan Macallin, who was elected from Baydhaba, revealed that the ongoing conflict in South West is a deliberate effort to undermine their existence, as she put it.

“We have not seen terrorism; those who are working towards the destruction of South West are part of the conflict. Our existence is being denied in other regions, and they ask, what is your value, what is your worth?” said MP Maryan Macallin.
