Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Transfers Power to Acting Speaker

MOGADISHU – The Permanent Committee of the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Somalia held an extraordinary meeting today at the Villa Hargeysa headquarters, with the agenda being the transfer of power from the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sheikh Aadan Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), who was recently elected as the Leader of the South West State.

Aadan Madoobe officially transferred the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives to the First Deputy Speaker of the House, Ms. Sacdiya Yasin Haji Samatar, who will temporarily hold the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives until a new speaker is elected, in accordance with the constitution and the rules of procedure of the House of Representatives.

The Second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Abdullahi Omar Abshir, who spoke at the meeting, expressed great gratitude to the former Speaker of the House for his exemplary leadership and the visible role he played in advancing the work of the House during his tenure, noting that Aadan Madoobe played an important role in accelerating legislative activities, enhancing cooperation within the House, and maintaining the order of the House.

For his part, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sheikh Aadan Madoobe, thanked the members of the House leadership and all the members of the House of Representatives for their cooperation and support during his tenure as Speaker, emphasizing that the achievements made were the result of collaboration, unity, and the collective efforts of all members of the House.

Additionally, the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, who is also the Acting Speaker, Ms. Sacdiya Yasin Haji Samatar, thanked the former Speaker of the House for his good work and leadership, commending his efforts in advancing the House of Representatives and enhancing its role in the country's state-building process.

Ms. Sacdiya Yasin Haji Samatar also confirmed that the leadership of the House of Representatives will continue to fulfill its constitutional obligations, while focusing on accelerating legislative activities, oversight, and representing the Somali people until a new speaker is elected.

Finally, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sheikh Aadan Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), handed over the general report of the House of Representatives, the specific administrative procedures of the House, and the strategic plan to the First Deputy Speaker of the House, who is also the Acting Speaker, while a certificate of honor was awarded to the Director of Administration and Finance of the House of Representatives, Mr. Siciid Mohamed Cadow, in recognition of his diligence and management of the administration and finances of the House.
