The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, participated last night in the national event of flag-raising on July 1st, which commemorates the independence of the Southern Regions of the country and the unification of the Northern and Southern regions.

The President congratulated the Somali people on this significant occasion for the nationhood and unity of the Somali people, noting that July 1st represents the long struggle that Somali heroes undertook for freedom and governance.

Units of the Somali National Army, fulfilling their national duties, honorably raised the flag of the Republic at exactly 12:00 midnight, marking 66 years since our flag was raised in the capital, Mogadishu.

President Hassan Sheikh emphasized the importance of maintaining unity, solidarity, and state-building in the country, pointing out that today’s generations are responsible for continuing the vision of the founders of the Somali nation.

On the other hand, the President participated in the joy of this significant event for the Somali people in the capital's streets, which carries the memory of the long struggle for independence and the establishment of Somali governance.
