The Military Court Sentences a Soldier to Death by Firing Squad for Killing Citizen Yusuf Ahmed Abdi

Mogadishu – The First Degree Military Court today sentenced Ex-Soldier Abdi Aadan Ibrahim to death by firing squad as retribution for the late Yusuf Ahmed Abdi, who was known by the nickname “Soddon”, and who was accused of killing a citizen working in the construction trade.

The late Yusuf Ahmed Abdi was killed on July 26, 2026, while he was leaving work and riding a Bajaj motorcycle he had rented to reach his home.

According to the details of the case, the accused stopped the Bajaj motorcycle on the road in the Iga-daba-geey neighborhood of Garasbaaley district, wanting to take him further. When told that they were not heading in the same direction, after an argument, he opened fire, and two bullets from a pistol hit the deceased in the stomach, causing him to die at the scene.

The accused reportedly attempted to flee but hid in a tree not far from the scene of the incident. Civilians informed the security forces of his hiding place, and he was apprehended there.

The Office of the Military Prosecutor requested that the case be taken up, and this request was approved on September 16, 2026.

Finally, the First Degree Military Court today announced the death sentence by firing squad as retribution for the late Yusuf Ahmed Abdi.

The Chairman of the First Degree Military Court, Brigadier General Hassan Ali Nur Shuute, informed the media of the sentence imposed on the accused.
