The Somalia Humanitarian Forum Concludes in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia — The Somalia Humanitarian Forum (CHF 2026) has concluded in Mogadishu, focusing on preparations for the expected impacts of the Super El Niño climate phenomenon in 2026, early warnings, and the implementation of urgent measures to mitigate humanitarian risks.

The forum was attended by ministers from the federal government, the Chairman of the Somalia Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), officials from regional governments, humanitarian agencies, international partners, and civil society.

During the forum, the focus was on strengthening preparedness and response plans for floods, and how to further organize humanitarian support. Additionally, the importance of delivering early warnings and information about risks to vulnerable communities, especially those living in remote areas, was discussed.

Participants emphasized the need for close collaboration and coordination between the federal government, regional governments, and humanitarian agencies, to take proactive measures and reduce the impacts of floods, displacement, and other humanitarian situations that may arise from El Niño.

The Chairman of SoDMA, Mahmud Macallin Abdulle, stated that there is a need for unity and broad organization to address the risks posed by El Niño 2026.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Federalism, and Reconciliation, Ali Yusuf Ali (Xoosh), who closed the forum, called on all parties involved in preparedness and response to fully cooperate with SoDMA.

The minister noted that SoDMA is the national agency responsible for leading and coordinating disaster management activities, emphasizing the need for various efforts to be based on a unified plan to reduce the impacts of disasters.
